How do I…
Add a widget to my home screen?
If the app is installed to external storage, you must first move it to internal memory, as Android requires this for widgets to work. You can then continue as follows:
Ice Cream Sandwich and Jellybean
- Select the “Widgets” tab in your device's application drawer, then select one of the Easy Voice Recorder widgets.
KitKat and newer, and Gingerbread and older
- Long-press an empty area of your home screen, select “Widget”, then select one of the Easy Voice Recorder widgets.
Back up my recordings?
We recommend that you use both of the following options:
- Transfer your recordings over to your computer on a regular basis.
- Use DropSync. With this app, you can tell it to back up the entire Easy Voice Recorder folder to Dropbox. To avoid mobile charges, please ensure you have adequate data, or backup only when connected to WiFi.

Delete/share/etc… a recording?
You must first select at least one recording. To do this, you can either click on the boxes next to each recording to check them, or you can long-press a recording until it's checked. Once one or more items are checked, you can choose to share, delete, or perform other actions on the selected items.
When you share a recording, the application you use to share will impose its own restrictions. For example, email providers can't handle large recordings.

Disable the phone's automatic gain control?
Some phones use an automatic gain control (AGC) that is automatically applied to the recording. To fix this, you can try one of the following options:
- (pro) Change the microphone input option to "Camcorder" or "Main" with tuning set to "Voice recognition".
- On devices with Jelly Bean or newer, if you're using the PCM format and if the device supports Jelly Bean AGC, then you may be able to disable that in the PCM settings.
Transfer my recordings to my computer?
If you're using Windows, follow these steps:
- Connect the phone to your PC with your USB cable.
- Make sure your phone is in USB or media storage mode.
- Browse to the phone from your computer.
- Locate the files; by default they will be stored in the "EasyVoiceRecorder" folder.
You can now copy the files over to your PC. On a Mac, you will need to use Android File Transfer.
If you can see files only on your device but not on your PC, then try restarting your device or use SDrescan.
We highly recommend copying the files over to your PC and making a backup before opening or modifying them, as some phones have been known to corrupt the files when the customer tried to play them back directly from the device.
Use an external microphone?
On most newer Android devices, all you need to do is plug the microphone into your device's headphone jack. Once the external microphone is plugged via the headphone jack, the platform then handles everything automatically. To ensure that you do record from the external microphone, you may want to ensure that the audio input source is set to "Main" or "Device default", if using the pro version.
IK Multimedia sells the iRig Mic
, a handheld microphone for Android devices, and the iRig Mic Cast
, an ultra-compact voice recording microphone for Android devices.

Use Bluetooth mode?
You can use Bluetooth in the pro version in two ways: to listen to your recordings, and to record a new recording.
To listen to your recordings, you need to enable Bluetooth in your device settings, and make sure that your headset is both paired and connected. For playback to work, open the settings for your Bluetooth headset in your device settings, and ensure that "Media audio" is visible and checked. It should then work automatically when you play a file in Easy Voice Recorder, with no need to set anything special in Easy Voice Recorder itself. If this option is not available, then your device/headset may not support playback for applications.
To also record from Bluetooth, your headset needs to have a microphone, and you need to have Bluetooth enabled in your device settings and your headset needs to be both paired and connected. Then you need to enable Bluetooth in Easy Voice Recorder, by going to Settings->Recording, and enabling Bluetooth. Bluetooth only works with 8000Hz mono recordings. On some devices, Bluetooth is supported only for phone calls, and not for application audio.
Use stereo mode?
You can enable stereo in the pro version by going to Settings->Recording, and enabling stereo mode. On some phones, you won't hear a difference with the default microphone. For these devices, switch to the Camcorder microphone by going to Settings->Recording, and changing the microphone to "Camcorder", then your recordings should be in stereo.
Easy Voice Recorder is unable to predetermine if your device supports stereo or not, so if it doesn't work or sounds funny, disable stereo mode to return to regular mode. Some custom ROMs may have issues with their sound drivers that prevent stereo mode from working properly, and some devices only support stereo for built-in applications and not for downloaded applications.

Troubleshooting
All my recordings are missing! / It always tells me that the current folder is not writeable.
Unplug your USB cable if it's currently plugged in. Sometimes this is also cleared up by a restart. Also, ensure you really are using a valid folder. The default folder is located in your default external storage, under "EasyVoiceRecorder".
I accidentally deleted a recording! How can I get it back?
We do not store copies of customer data, so unfortunately, we cannot restore your recording. However, you may be able to undelete the recording by using one of the following tools:
Here are some resources that may also help:
Beyond this, it might be possible to use the services of a data recovery specialist. The chances of a successful recovery increase the less you use your phone and the sooner this is done.
I can't find my files when I connect my phone to my computer.
Your device may use “Media Transfer Protocol”; these devices have a known issue where newly created files don't always show up when the phone is connected via USB. This can be fixed by restarting your phone or by using SDrescan.

I can't record at all! I always get an error that the microphone is in use.
Only one app may use the microphone at a time. If you encounter this error and nothing else seems to be using the microphone, please restart your device.
If the problem still persists, it might be caused by:
- Having a call recorder installed and configured to always run, or running an app like MagicJack.
- On some devices, Google Now's voice detection may prevent other apps from using the microphone. Some custom 3rd-party launchers also listen in on the microphone.

I can't record phone calls!
Easy Voice Recorder cannot record phone calls on most phones, as this is blocked by the hardware or by the operating system itself. While it doesn't work for most phones, it may work for some phones that do not have these restrictions, and it may also be possible by putting the call on speaker and using either the regular mic or the "camcorder" mic.
I can't save recordings to my SD card on Android 4.4+!
Beginning with Android 4.4 KitKat, full access to your SD card and other external storage is now blocked for all 3rd-party applications, like Easy Voice Recorder. This means that you won't be able to create new recordings there. Your new recordings can only be saved in the app-specific folder assigned by Android, and these recordings will be erased if the app is uninstalled.
If you recently migrated from an earlier version of Android, your current recordings can still be played back from their old location even if Easy Voice Recorder couldn't automatically move them to the new location for you. New recordings will need to be stored in the new location.
Due to bugs in Android 4.4 KitKat, Easy Voice Recorder may report folders on your SD card as writeable when they are actually blocked by the system.

I can't send my recording via SMS or email.
If your recording is too large to send by email or SMS, then here are a couple of options you can try:
For future recordings, you can try AAC or AMR instead. You can change the recording format in Settings->Sound quality->Sound encoding.

The recordings contain hisses, static, and buzzing.
To improve the recording quality, turn down gain, lower background noise and keep noise away from the microphone. On some devices, poor recording quality may be caused by a hardware fault. You may be able to improve quality by selecting High quality (PCM), with the sample rate set to at least 16000 Hz and 16 bits per sample.

The recordings are too loud.
Ensure that the gain is set to 0dB and that automatic gain control is off, and that any sound-boosting options in the settings (i.e. xLOUD) are also turned off.

When the screen goes off, parts of my recording become silent!
Some devices turn their microphones off when their screens go off, and Easy Voice Recorder cannot detect this on every device. For these devices, you will need to force the screen to remain on while Easy Voice Recorder is recording. You can do this by going to Settings->Advanced and setting “Keep awake while recording” to “Allow dimmed screen” or “Leave screen on”.
Which devices have known issues?
HTC One
If it stops working after some time, restart the device.
HTC One X
Stereo recording does not work.
Huawei
all models
Many models may have a slight chipmunk effect when recording in AAC, and the internal mic may introduce distortion.
LG
Nexus 4 and Nexus 5
The microphone input may be distorted or excessively amplified. This effect may be reduced by setting the microphone input to "Main" and the microphone tuning to "Voice recognition".

Motorola Droid
all models
Recording and playback may only work when the screen is forced on, in Settings->Advanced.
The Droid RAZR is confirmed to have a recording problem with the AAC format, starting with Ice Cream Sandwich. The phone inserts a gap into the recording every ten minutes. Versions of the firmware earlier than Ice Cream Sandwich don't seem to have this issue.
Older Motorola devices may sometimes create recordings that sound like chipmunks. If this happens to you, you can fix the wave files by changing the sample rate with a wave header editor tool.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
and others using MTP
If your files are not visible from your PC when plugged in via USB, restart the device.
